While I was writing this over the weekend, there was some sunshine here on the south coast of England. My partner Sara and I went for a walk along the seafront on Saturday morning which was a delightful experience. I savored the warmth of the sun on my face, took in the scent of the sea breeze, and enjoyed seeing other people out and about, all happy.

The local land train was shuttling families back and forth between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers, adding to the already great atmosphere. My senses were overwhelmed, a momentous occasion for my personal neurophysiology!

Later that evening, my friends made fun of my sunburnt forehead, but I couldn't help but express my excitement for the upcoming summer. As I spoke, I could feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, envisioning the fun I would have while at the beach. I even reminisced about the scent of the ocean and the immense happiness I feel when I'm there.

We can imitate a natural occurrence using NLP methods.

NLP, short for neuro-linguistic programming, is a technique that assists in creating alterations. We use the abbreviation NLP for simplicity.

Unknowingly, the period I had spent by the beach earlier that day had linked to the amazing encounter that occurred immediately thereafter. When this experience replayed in my thoughts, my brain recognized it and triggered a physical reaction in anticipation of the forthcoming intense sensations.

An anchor in NLP refers to anything in the human nervous system that can stimulate other representations. the word "chocolate" can also evoke different associations, although it is uncertain which ones will produce the most intense emotions. Anchors need not only be limited to words, but can include a variety of things.

Using NLP, we acknowledge that anchors may function within various systems of representation, including visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and gustatory. Here are a few illustrations to aid in your

The term "tonal" refers to the unique manner in which an individual says your name. This could be demonstrated by a friend or family member's particular way of uttering your name. When I was younger, my mother would shout my name loudly from another room, and I knew that she had found out about something I had done wrong. Hearing her say "Adam!The tone hinted at the type of difficulty that lay ahead for me.

Tactile experiences such as the feeling of a particular handshake or the difference between a comforting hug and a loving embrace can evoke various positive emotions. This leads to the rediscovery of delightful sentiments.


The response that people have towards specific clothes is referred to as visual. During lunch with my childhood friends, my jacket became the topic of discussion and they made positive comments about it. Whenever they see me wearing that jacket, it brings back those memories and puts a smile on their faces.


The sense of smell, such as the aroma of a specific meal being prepared, can trigger a memory of a past experience, like the time you were in your school cafeteria.


Gustatory refers to the flavor of a food that you enjoy or the ability of certain foods to trigger memories of past experiences. For example, you may have positive associations with soup because of the comfort and support it provided when you were sick as a child. Every time you eat Heinz Tomato Soup, it may evoke those same memories and feelings.


In the realm of NLP, an anchor refers to any representation within the human nervous system that causes another representation to be activated. Essentially, it shares similarities with Pavlovian conditioning, which utilized the example of bells causing dogs to salivate. Some of Pavlov's research findings are utilized within the field of NLP.

Although I unintentionally created an anchor for the sea front, you can purposely use the NLP technique to create one for yourself. Try it out and gain knowledge of this NLP technique.

To begin with, recall a moment in which you experienced a strong sense of pleasure or positivity. Visualize what you were seeing through your own eyes, listen to the sounds that surrounded you, and experience the emotions that you felt during the moment. As you allow the sensations to intensify, lightly press your left thumb and forefinger together for a brief period before releasing. Afterwards, disrupt your current state by thinking of something unrelated, such as your lunch from the previous day. Then, slowly pulse your thumb and forefinger together once more and the previous emotional state will return.

To fully utilize anchoring with NLP, it is crucial to fully immerse yourself in the experience and make it extremely detailed in your thoughts. Additionally, it is necessary to remember it and activate your NLP anchor multiple times. This can be especially beneficial when you desire to feel good while at home and feeling down. Rather than resorting to chocolate, you can trigger your "feel good" anchor.

Whenever you wish to become motivated to work out, simply trigger your enthusiasm anchor. This is a basic NLP technique.

This is an uncomplicated yet effective NLP method that can grant you the ability to attain desired emotional and mental states at will. The practice of using your thumb and forefinger serves as a tactile reference point, yet you have the flexibility to select any symbol or representation for anchoring either yourself or another individual.

Guidelines for setting anchors with NLP;

have a robust foundation for the experience to build upon.

b) Make sure you have a strong instance of the incident to use.

Anchor yourself in multiple ways in order to represent information (using visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and other methods).

Place the anchor shortly before the maximum point of the experience.

When you trigger the anchor, make sure to do so with precision. Be exact!

e) Using tactile (kinaesthetic) cues, regularly pulsating the anchor can aid in prolonging the sensation.

During one of my NLP training courses, a participant was particularly intrigued by the concept of anchoring. After the training, he tried it out by lightly tapping his cup with his ring each time his wife made him tea. Over time, this sensory representation became associated with his desire for tea, and he could simply tap his cup to trigger his wife to make a cup for him. This was a clever way to use NLP, creating a subtle trigger for his desired outcome. Eventually, he shared his experience with his wife and now he ends up making more tea than she does!

I understand that some of you might be questioning whether this behavior is controlling. However, my response is that it can be used for positive actions.

It could also be argued that there is no manipulation involved in this scenario. It is similar to presenting oneself in a positive manner by ensuring a pleasing appearance and scent before going out. By doing this, one is seeking to create a favorable impression and evoke a positive reaction from others, which can be considered a form of influence that is being achieved through clothing, grooming, and fragrance choices.

These are the kinds of things that I specially apply NLP techniques to anchor, whenever I come across or go through them:

- Smiles.


- Laughter. 


- Excitement 


- Confidence 


- Good feelings 


Great service provided by servers, particularly waiters and waitresses.


Achievement and success can be effective in quitting smoking, losing weight, or building self-confidence by offering attractive, practical, or enjoyable benefits.


This occurrence is constantly happening regardless.

At the start of my discussion, I mentioned that anchoring using NLP is something that happens naturally. Without even realizing it, you are constantly experiencing it in various aspects of your life. People frequently use this technique, often without awareness. What I am suggesting is that you become more aware of the anchors that you and others may be using (perhaps using NLP) and intentionally use them to produce positive outcomes instead of haphazard results. In essence, use NLP with mindfulness.

Taking this a step further;

Recently, I collaborated with a group of colleagues who were looking for NLP consulting. During our discussions, I asked them how they would measure the success of the two-day workshop. One of them replied that it would have a positive feeling attached to it and gestured towards his stomach. When I repeated the phrase "feel good factor" back to him, he agreed. Later, I referred to the "feel good factor" while using his gesture, and he responded with a full physiological reaction, including changes in skin color, posture, and energy levels.

This confirmed that using both the words and gesture as anchors was far more effective than just words alone. Throughout the consultation, I continued to use this anchor without the colleague's awareness that I was using NLP, but it helped me to understand him better and create a successful outcome.

NLP anchors can be utilized to grasp and repeat pleasant experiences for oneself and others. Try attempting this NLP activity as well.

Recall a memory that brought you great joy or happiness. Visualize the event through your own perspective, remembering what you saw, heard, and felt. As the emotions intensify, apply light pressure to the thumb and forefinger on your left hand for a short period and then release. To change your current state of mind, recall a mundane detail such as which shoe you put on first this morning. Then, gently pulse your thumb and forefinger together once more to return to the emotional state you were previously experiencing.

Find something that a person you are familiar with does and establish a slight trigger. Establish the trigger while the individual is engaged in the activity. Subsequently, activate your NLP anchor at a later time and observe the result. If the person performs the activity tied to your anchor, then the technique was successful!

Create an anchor for yourself or someone else when they are encountering something desirable and wish to experience more of it.

It is important to remember that NLP techniques are potent, and should be used judiciously. Additionally, take note of when these techniques are being used on you. Advertisers, politicians and comedians employ NLP anchors with great skill for maximum impact. Developing awareness of NLP techniques is crucial. Enjoy learning about them!
